Later in the fourth century, a bishop of Laodicea (an ancient city in the western portion of what is now modern Turkey) named Apollinaris, who apparently viewed the human mind as inherently sinful, sought to safeguard the psychological integrity of Christ by having the Logos take the place of the human mind and soul as the rational principle of Christ’s person.
